Start Your New Year With an Aesthetic Medicine Consultation

Your cheeks have lost some fullness, and fine lines and wrinkles are popping up. You’re also seeing age spots and rougher looking skin. Are you ready to do something about these changes?

As we age, our appearance becomes noticeably different. Don't worry. There are a variety of ways you can improve your facial appearance, diminish skin imperfections, and signs of aging.

The aesthetic consultation

The first step in improving your facial appearance is seeking the advice and expertise of a qualified physician. Gul A. Zikria, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified physician with advanced training in cosmetics and aesthetics through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgeons and Academy of Cosmetic Gynecologists.

You’ll be an active partner with Dr. Zikria in developing your treatment plan. He first reviews your medical history and checks for allergies and medical issues you may have that could impact your aesthetic treatment.

Dr. Zikria asks you to explain what your concerns are. He listens to you and notes all your goals. Then, he examines your face using a special light and a magnifier. There are so many options for aesthetic facial treatments today. The treatments are scientifically-based and cleared by the FDA as effective. Dr. Zikria recommends options that'll provide you the most optimal results.

Before treatment, he'll discuss the procedure, as well as any alternatives. He'll take the time to answer your questions and explain the risks, outcomes, length of treatment, and cost.

Aesthetic technology has advanced exponentially in the past two decades. Here are some of the most common aesthetic procedures that rejuvenate your skin and subtract years from your age:

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers — Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, Bellafill®, or Restylane® — all contain a medically-approved form of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in your body. Certain fillers are great at plumping up sagging cheeks and thin lips, while others smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can also smooth out acne scars that have left small craters in your face. Plus, they can last from a few months to two years.

Botox® has been used in the United States for almost two decades to reduce the appearance of fine lines around your eyes (crow’s feet) and forehead furrows between your brows (frown lines). Dr. Zikria performs a series of injections in specific facial muscles. Using fillers and Botox®, in only a few minutes, you’re on the way to a younger facial appearance.

Do you have an important celebration coming up and want to look your best? Microdermabrasion works wonders on wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, and mild acne scars. Dr. Zikria uses a handheld device that sprays the treatment area with tiny crystals that exfoliate your skin. Suction removes the dead cells and crystals. There are no needles or anesthesia. You may want to schedule monthly microdermabrasion appointments to maintain results.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel helps reduce fine lines and the appearance of dark spots caused by sun damage. These peels can also smooth out your skin texture. Peels come in different strengths, so Dr. Zikria will recommend which one is appropriate for you.

Non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation

This type of laser treatment diminishes age/sun spots, scars, and wrinkles. During the procedure, heat is delivered via special laser light to the skin below the surface. The point of this treatment is to increase collagen production to smooth out your skin. It’s completely non-invasive: there’s no anesthesia and no downtime.

Fractional laser resurfacing

Fractional laser resurfacing helps diminish wrinkles and lines on your face and/or neck, chest, arms, and hands. Dr. Zikria uses a handheld fractional laser device; it beams laser light into the skin underneath the outer layer. The procedure triggers collagen production and new skin cells.

If you choose fractional laser resurfacing, you’ll have long-lasting results with no downtime. Patients report minimal or no discomfort. Keep in mind, you'll need a few treatments over the span of a month.

RF Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure. Dr. Zikria uses fractional radiofrequency microneedling, known as RF microneedling, an advance in microneedling technique that provides superior results.

Using a small handheld device, Dr. Zikria creates tiny pinpricks in the skin; your body’s defenses rush to develop new collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep your skin soft and supple. The radiofrequency energy from the device penetrates deep into the underlayers of your skin, producing rapid results that you’ll love. RF microneedling provides all of the following benefits:

Varicose Vein Removal: What Are My Options?

There’s little question that varicose and spider veins are unsightly, particularly in moderate to advanced stages. Though they’re usually medically benign, varicose veins do need assessment before you undergo treatment to remove them.

What Does It Take to Have My Tattoo Removed?

Times and tastes change, so it’s not uncommon that a tattoo choice of years ago is not what you’d select today. Fortunately, that decision doesn’t have to be permanent — cosmetic lasers provide a way to remove the ink you no longer want.
